Meditation induced euphoria, vertigo and dizziness happens for some contemplatives. You may find viewing the following video on this subject of interest:

Meditation induced euphoria, vertigo and dizziness
Euphoria is a fruit of the contemplative life and is the kinesthetic charism

Jhanananda, you referred to the inner ear as the 6th sense and the probability of its corresponding charism as the likely culprit to vertigo/dizziness in meditation. Since I have noticed that after meditation the Charisms follow me out of meditation for a time, it could likely be the cause for extended, daily re-occurance. An interesting thing, Jhanon used the analogy of "not riding your bike for awhile". Do you think it likely there is an acclimation period? It seemed as though it was less impactfull before. Last nights meditation kicked my butt. After reaching the third jhana, the vertigo would set in. I transitioned to the 4th and it got worse, i even started to produce heat and couldnt complete the transition. This happened 2 more times till I settled in the third, still with the vertigo. I only ask because it was very uncomfortable, and I could only stomach being present there for about an hour before I gave up. Something to note as well, while directing attention to the static under my eyes, it did seem as though I was in motion in the 1rst and 2nd Jhanas. I stopped paying attention to it in the transition to the third and directed my awareness to the whole body. Any insight would be much appreciated.

(I have not been meditating lately and have decided to resume my practice)

Yes, with all of the charisms there is a saturation period.  Once we are saturation in whatever charisms is active, then we might find it with us all day long, which is a good thing.

However, when I got saturated in the kinesthetic charism I had such bad vertigo, that I could barely walk for a few years.  A cane or staff is in order at that time.

Like Moses used ^_< (I have no idea if Moses actually existed or had access to the meditative ecstasies)
