I had a good session today as soon as i woke up this morning, a thought dawned on me near the end of the session which i want to develop into some form of poem in the future.  Trying to conceptualize the different mental landscapes that one encounters during a sit.  Just going to write as it comes.

The mind at the start of meditation sometimes known as monkey mind,
Is like walking through the heart of New York City on a busy summers day,
Multiple voices, inane chattering, restless nature exposed,
Until the focus is rested at the tip of the nose,
Again and again the mind wanders, but eventually is brought to stay,
giving rise to a different mental landscape,
Like that of a desert, empty barren and silent,
only thing that is present is a cooling wind blowing through, nature is ancient,
Joy and bliss they arise in the face of a still mind,
spread over the body like that of a cooling rain,
the rain it nourishes, refreshes, revives,
The flowers of joy and peace bloom up from the ground,
emptyness gives rise to beauty,
beauty fans the petals of love,
love for self, love for life,
it's an honor to be an apature for this conciousness.

I just noticed how at the start of meditaton the monkey mind was present, loud and brash like being in NYC.  That eventually gave rise to a sense of emptiness, just felt like a cool wind blowing through the hollow shell of my body and mind, from there bliss starts to arise which feels like cooling rain on the surface of the skin.  And like a desert when hit by a shower of rain the emptiness gives way to beauty, that of piti and sukha.

Im a big fan of thoughtful, soulful hiphop as well and sometimes write lyrics, excuse the egoic nature of the lyrics.  Hope someone enjoys as i am enjoying reading others writings

Some would say im a Jiva, and individual soul
Once presumed seperate now known as part of the whole,
The interconnected nature of the soul,
I recognise how education almost stole,
My creativity,
But of course im party to blame, getting caught up in hysterical playground activity,
Never acting the same,
Around different people,
Causing individuals pain,
I've witnessed evil, and the justification of the insane,
Willing to hurt the masses simply for material gain,
Never recognising that were one in the same.
I believe these issues arise from the mind warping perspectives,
They call me sherlock because i am the "self" detective,
Using what ever method i deem efficient and effective,
Be it a buddhist, yogic or gnostic prospectus,
I take what makes sense to me and perfect it.

Hey PD,

I don't know how I missed this before.  I have a huge love of the poetry street artists and mystics write.  It is awesome to hear you are into soulful hip-hop.  Contemporary nujazz?  Trip hop?  They are very similar... I have a love of this genre too. Massive Attack, Tosca, Prodigy, Emancipator, Blazo, Nujabes.... I sure there is more than I can remember!

I like the first poem, it is very typical of an everyday meditation sit.  The second poem feels like it is part of something larger... I feel caught in certain parts, but it is so meaty I feel like I am missing some finer, but important, details.  Is there more to this poem?

Hey Jay my man :)

I love Nujabes and empancipator, but i haven't explored the other artists you are talking about so i will check them out.  Nujabes is just eerie and haunting i find whilst being nostalgic, Mystline being a perfect example of this.  Love his work with substaintial and other wordsmiths as well.

Well it's not really part of something bigger, was just reflecting on past experience whilst in secondary school which is a dog eat dog enviroment and how you can act different around others trying to fit in, i was guilty of that for sure.  The ego gets super reinforced it seems at that stage of life.  I might be wrong but are you English?  If so you know what im talkinga bout at school haha.  Was just sat in my uni dorms and decided to put down what ever came to mind :D

Somehow I too missed the original post here.  Good start with writing poetry.  I too happen to enjoy reading poetry, especially the poetry of mystics; and I too write poetry.  I generally start like you did, with just writing some free form thoughts, then I edit, edit, and edit.

Awwe man, you put smile on my face!

Mystline sounds familar... I will do some digging on it.

I am part of the Commonwealth, half of my bloodline is a English/Scottish mix, but I am from Canada.  The other half of the blood is Ukrainian.  I found secondary school not to be a very dog eat dog environment, at least to the school I went.  We had this very laid-back culture so ego reinforcement was not really predominant, although of course it is always there.

I too am part of the Commonwealth; however with most of my bloodline English/Scottish/Irish mix with the odd wondering Jew and native American.  I was even raised in the British Commonwealth going through its school systems from 5th through 8th grades.  I did not; however, find it supportive, as there was quite a bit of resentment toward US Americans then, and I was the most convenient US American to abuse, so I felt the sting of the head master's cane several times each semester.

My step father was also Canadian.  And, I agree with you, Canadians seem to have a more relaxed attitude toward life, and are not quite as ego-driven as US Americans tend to be.

Oddly, my sister married a Russian Jew, and my daughter just married a Bulgarian, so for some reason my family seems to be moving its interests to eastern Europe.  So, we seem to have some common roots, and experiences.  I have also heard Russians say on more than one occasion that Russians have a lot of common attitudes with US Americans.  I suppose that is why there is so much enmity and mistrust between them, because they are just looking into a cultural mirror.
