I agree, but the broader context is caffeine is a drug.  On the other hand I have one cup of coffee every morning, which I dress-up with sugar-free chocolate, ginger, cinnamon, and sweetened with either stevia, or coconut sugar, and thickened with peanut butter.  It does not make me hyper, or affect my calm, nor does it raise my blood sugar, and it tastes good.

It definitely is...

I drink coffee too. If only there was a drink that tasted as good and did not contain caffeine. I am not dependent on it though.

About three decades ago I realized that caffeine in all of its manifestations is a cerebral stimulant, so I took it out of my diet until I mastered the stilling of the mind.  Instead of drinking coffee or black tea in the mornings I drank ginger tea.  I liked it better anyway.  Perhaps some of you will find another drink, other than a caffeine that suits you.  If so, let us know, so that we can all learn from the good ideas of others.

Since tea and coffee are cerebral stimulants, I've stopped drinking them. Maybe cacao would be a good substitute for coffee, and it contains no caffeine.

Like you, Jhananda, I add ginger to my diet, but only to my vegetables.

I drink water only. It is readily available. So this keeps things simple. It's also very addictive. Try going without it, lol.

Sounds like a good, disciplined, diet system to me, Michel.  Perhaps we can all share caffeine-free recipes?

I know coffee impedes my practice, yet I have been drinking it again lately. I've been meditating at least once at night, and some other sporadic short periods when I'm able, and even if it has been hours and hours since I actually drank any I can still tell it's in my system and keeping me from greater depth. Since it's such an obvious obstacle I'm going to have to quit again. With winter coming I'll probably have to come up with some other hot concoction to make in the mornings. Tulsi tea is good.
