Best states for practice
« on: May 08, 2022, 08:33:36 AM »
Dear Mystics,

what in your opinion would be the best US states or areas inside specific states for mystic way of life? I would think the some of the factors should be:

- Low density of population
- Warm or mild climate
- Financially affordable

Jeff is in Arizona which would fit a lot of your criteria. They do say that Republican states are more affordable for housing. I have asked Jeff about the quality of healthcare there (one of my concerns) and he said he was very satisfied with what he received. I think of how Anthony the Great turned the desert into its own little spiritual oasis... Jhanananda may be leaving his own good vibrations in the American desert today haha.

I am in Massachusetts. I do like the Northeast in many ways... it was the home of Whitman, Thoreau... Perhaps they will make a Wikipedia page for me postmortem and see we have a spiritual streak here as well. :p

For me I like having a lot of wilderness, and warm weather, which fits AZ and NM, but I have also found seasonal migration helps me a great deal, so that I don't have to deal with extreme weather, so a Nomad existence the best choice for me. I migrate up and down slope depending upon time of year and weather.

AZ has probably the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises especially in the mountainous areas. I got to visit AZ a few times and also lived in NV for a tiny bit. So I can understand why Jhananda stays in AZ. It is easy to fall in love with the desert. You can probably meditate outside most of the year.

Alexander, I do like New England a lot but Mass seems too busy :) VT, NH or ME would be great maybe except for long winters...
