Trouble Doing Multiple Quotes
« on: September 20, 2013, 05:10:12 PM »
I bet I'm not the only one on this forum having trouble doing multiple quotes when trying to reply to a post. That is quoting various sentences, paragraphs and showing who wrote it, what the time and date are. I can do multiple quotes but they don't show who wrote it, what the time and date are.

Despite reading the user help instructions for doing quotes, I can't for the life of me figure it out. Not being able to do this limits our effectiveness on this forum. It's frustrating. I suspect some people my not sometimes post their replies because of this problem.

These are the instructions from the user help section on doing quotes:

To reply to a post by quoting it, you can either select the Quote button for the relevant post or select the Reply button followed by Insert Quote from the relevant post in the Topic Summary below, but note that:
•   Both of these options add a link to the original post showing the name of the poster and the date and time of the post, whereas the Bulletin Board Code quote tag simply quotes the relevant post without this additional information.
•   You can retain or add the 'author' attribute independently of the full quote function.

Can anyone help us? Thanks, Michel

Understanding forum code can be quite challenging to people who want to participate in internet forums.  However it is part of the literature of internet forums.  The way to make it easier on yourself is to click the "quote" button on a message that you want to respond to, then the forum software will start that quote with (quote author=Michel link=topic=563.msg1710#msg1710 date=1379697012), and end it with (/quote).  It will be important to convert my () to [] to make the quote system work.

There are actually 4 ways to quote.  You can also select a portion of text that you either typed or copy and pasted into your message, then click the text bubble icon in the editing pain when constructing your message.  And, as the instructions above stated you can also "insert quote" wherever you have your cursor placed in your message.  Fourth you can understand the BB code and manually type, or copy and past (quote)text(/quote).  Just remember that the () must be [].
