The OOBE is an Out-Of-Body-Experience.  It is also known as: astral traveling, rapture and other terms.  It is a hyper-real experience of leaving the body and interacting in a non-material reality.  You may find the links to the following essays and videos on this subject on interest to you:

I've had some very lucid dreams, and met some interesting characters.  At one time I recall seeing someone wearing a floppy, broad, brown hat standing alongside a wire fence, as if I were out on some country property, and that stuck in my head a bit  And I used to see power-lines (like suspended electricity cables) all the time, and would have many drifting dreams, moving along those lines.  One time, in an afternoon cat-nap, I woke up in some brilliantly luminous, cloudy space, with two very bright lights coming towards me, but I didn't stay there for long.

One night, in a dream, I recall hearing one of my old meditation teachers saying, 'You've got a visitor!', when I saw two figures, who looked like elongated spheres dotted all over with glowing blue, red, green, and diamond-coloured spheres, coming towards me.

I've heard other people talking about a labyrinth, and in fact I saw this myself one night.  It looked like a printed-circuit board, with remnants of a castle in the centre.

All of this was quite vivid, but I am certainly not awake when I go to sleep.

Interesting lucid dreams, Econetic, I generally consider lucid dreams an OOBE without the lift-off and return.

The dream about a guy in a floppy hat in the wilderness around power lines sounds like me on an archaeological survey.  When I am out doors all day I tend to wear a very broad brimmed floppy straw hat, and the surveys are mostly on ranches and national forest land, and often there are power lines over head.

Yesterday I received a report from someone who is observing and testing Faraday cages.  He had a lucid dream on his first night in a shielded and grounded enclosure.  So, he suspects that it might stimulate lucid dreaming.  He also noted that there is a study that confirms this finding.  For more on Faraday cages (http://fruitofthecontemplativelife.org/forum/index.php/topic,697.0.html).
