Hi not sure if this is the best spot to share this with you but I almost purchased a ticket to Sri Lanka to to a meditation retreat at the Na Uyana monastery there when I came across this document which made me think that maybe I better just do a personal retreat by renting a house where I am now in Nepal. This text not only goes a long way at exposing much of Buddhist monasticism, but of great value is are the footnotes and the quotes from the suttas. I find this text to be helpful as a resource as much as a critical paper. Much of it goes along with what Jeff has been saying all along.

Thank-you nkrivosh, for posting the link. It could be very useful, but I moved it into Unpacking Religion for further discussion here
