I had seen this movie a while ago.  What really interested me was the political dynamics this prison retreat was having.  Should those in the wider community prevent prisoners from exercising their religious rights?

In Canada we have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which is enshrined in the constitution.  It supersedes all laws that parliament passes, keeping in mind that the courts must have a Charter case before them to strike down a law.  However, generally Parliament writes laws that now conform to the Charter, partly to avoid any future court cases.

I am not sure how it works in the US, but from seeing the movie I do not like seeing one appointed official making a decision on someone's religious freedoms.  If they were denied their retreats and meditation time, could the inmates file a court case and perhaps have their religious freedoms protected?
