Sam left the body
« on: November 16, 2016, 02:28:51 PM »

Our good friend for more than 10 years, Sam Lim, also known as Gandarloda, passed away in the afternoon of October 14, 2016 in his home in Singapore, due to a posterior stroke.  Sam will be missed by myself and the Great Western Vehicle.

I was shocked to hear this, when I thought I could meet him when I go to Singapore. I will miss his presence here. I wonder if he will still take birth.

This is indeed very sad news. I will miss Sam. He was helpful and kind to me. But he was tired of Samsara and wanted death to come soon so he could “go home,” as he would say. So in this sense I am happy for him.

Warm wishes to Sam, leaving this world behind.

Sam was such a nice person I couldn't help but feel a fondness for him.  I wouldn't mind crossing paths with him in a future life.  Sam, good luck with your new incarnation.

Sam was one of the earliest people to join our earlier incarnation on Yahoo Groups, which was called the Jhana Support Group.

From many discussions with Sam on-list, and in private it seemed to  me that when he died he would go to high realms, and chose when to be reborn, if he so wished.

It was my great aspiration to see him in this incarnation before either of us died.  Unfortunately that will not happen.  Perhaps I will see him in his next incarnation.

This is indeed very sad news. I will miss Sam. He was helpful and kind to me. But he was tired of Samsara and wanted death to come soon so he could “go home,” as he would say. So in this sense I am happy for him.

The genuine mystics have no craving for this world, and find material existence tedious.

I am both saddened by the loss of our dear friend Sam, and at the same time in joy to become a grandfather.  As my daughter just gave birth to a daughter.

Congrats on the grandchild.

As for Sam, I'm pretty shocked, surprised, and sad.

Not detached yet! Working on it.

I still feel the joy of the new-born grandchild, and the loss of the dhamma friend.  In my experience of deep meditation; it is not a state of feeling nothing, but a state of intense feelings.  What comes with those intense feelings, is the equanimity not to go running off made from those intense feelings; and a tremendous sense of fulfillment.

Congratulations on your granddaughter, Jeff!

And it is sad to hear that a senior member of GWV has passed on (although we should be happy that he has gone on to a better place).

I'm just wondering though, given your friendship with Sam over the years, do you think that he was a non-returner or an Arahant?

Thanks.

Thank-you for your inquiry.  I have already been into the spirit domain and communicated with Sam.  He has ascended to a very high realm, and can choose to return when he feels like it.

Ah I see. It is good to hear that and also interesting to find out that that is where he has reborn. If you could provide us more details about your meeting with Sam in the immaterial realm, that would be great for all of us in the GWV forum!

I'll always be grateful to Sam for his blunt, hard truths. Although it came with a sharp bite to see that he had passed away, I am happy for him. Goodbye for now, Sam.
