Heat waves
« on: February 24, 2023, 02:36:52 AM »
Hello all,

Sometimes meditation induces heat waves in the body. Is this phenomena considered an aspect of kundalini? I remember reading something about it but don't remember where.

I've heard of this phenomena, but I haven't experienced it, so I don't know.  I find I meditate better in a cool space, which might explain why I don't experience heat waves.

I have experienced feelings of heat when I do the Ramakrishna (3rd eye gazing) meditation for more than 90 minutes at a time.

Many years ago, probably around 2010 I sat doing it for over 6 hours, which is by far my longest unbroken sit.  My body felt hot for over a day and my oral temperature registed 101F for most of the night when I tested it with a thermometer.

gtummo meditation might generate some interest. It is known as the inner fire method, where practitioners generate so much heat they can sit in a freezing winter. It is somewhat like a yogic technique but may be related to these pulses of heat.

I used to sort of do a gTummo practice in college for a few years.  My own brand.  Just for a few years, can only do so many things haha.  -David

I remember seeing a video of a Tibetan monk who was meditating in a freezer room without a shirt to prove that it is possible to generate heat through meditation.

I used to do it by sitting outside in the winter on my college campus in a quiet place and focusing on warmth or by holding a thermocouple and trying to will it to change.  I had a little success over a few years.  That sort of stuff is more a distraction to me now but I can see how in a very cold country like Tibet biofeedback control might save your life or be important.
