Insight during jhana

What is your experience regarding insight during jhana? Does it happen automatically or you think the mind needs some direction.

In my experience insight requires the depth of jhana to gain intuitive, revelatory insight into any subject we place our still mind upon.

I was thinking that someone who has a general intent in life to find liberation from the material world should get a deeper insight from meditative experience rather than someone who practices meditation for a wordly purposes such as becoming a more effective CEO of a company, etc.

So I think they way you put it really makes sense if I understand it correctly.

Thank you, Tad, yes, I agree. As long as we obsess over the material world the more we will be compelled to return, and the 8th fold of the Noble Eightfold Path is essential to develop to gain the insight necessary to relinquish our attachment to the material world.
