Thank-you, Michel, for the links to hermits.  I read them all, and thought of my years in the Inyo.  I modified your post so that you could see how links are embedded, in case you were interested.

OK, thanks, Jhananda. I've figured it out. It sure looks pretty in comparison.

Well now I know what you mean.

So I hope that you are feeling better, Cal. You seem to be having a rough time. I wish I could help you with a few words of wisdom, but I have none. Maybe one day though.

That's quite alright, Michel. I wouldn't say things have gotten any better but I have gotten to a place where I can see them through.

I find it funny how he does the same pose as Plato/Socrates - a finger pointing upwards. Or St John, as drawn by Da Vinci... or the Last Supper.

Many of the saints of the Catholic Church are depicted in this pose.  I have known Rodney Burnap for about 5 or 6 years.  It is my interpretation of his behavior that he is very self consciously expressing himself as a saint; however, he does not lead a contemplative life.  He is just a devotee of fundamentalist Christianity; however, he does get that Jesus was a Nazarite, which is a mystic, but he is not willing to consider at this time that the Gospels have been traditionally mistranslated in this regard.

Good catch, bodhimind, of the pointing heavenward gesture; it looks like Raphael and Da Vinci both used it around the same time, and Jacques-Louis David used it again in the 18th c.
