"That is the fifth samadhi"
« on: June 06, 2013, 07:24:02 PM »
I knew I had heard an excellent description of the flash of blackness of the fifth samadhi, as well as hints of the refreshing idea that even the forth jhana could be mostly immaterial. I was unable to find the video though so I'm reposting it here pointing out that the last couple of minutes in this video is highly interesting but might not fit perfectly under the title of the video.

Jhana and the use of a Meditation Object

I sometime get to a state where I am aware of the external world, by sound, but am intensely aware that my body awaremess is gone. It feels really nice, and a bit comical, and I wonder if anybody seeing me now would see me thin like a sheet of paper.

A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, "You are mad; you are not like us." - st. Anthony the great

Welcome, mapeli, and thank-you for posting your comments to this forum.  The link you posted did not seem to work for me, so I re-posted the video link, below.

Jhana and the use of a Meditation Object
Jhana and the use of a Meditation Object to traverse the 8 stages of samadhi. A dialog at the GWV Ecstatic Buddhist Wilderness Retreat, August 2012 Gila Wilderness, NM with Michael Hawkins, Karen Sattler, Stuart B. Skadden and Craig Anzelmo

There is certainly a joy (sukha) factor in deep meditation, so I can see why you might find it humorous to see yourself "paper thin."  Or, others might find themselves gone, and find that funny as well.

Yes, I can see how that too is funny. Actually, it seems familiar.
