One of the people that I admire the most, Christopher Hitchens. A very brilliant and intelligent man who is also very compassionate in his own way.

I thought Christopher Hitchens to be a very rare, highly evolved human being. I miss not having him around. Hopefully he has taken rebirth in a place where he will come across the Dhamma.

My Students.

I used to have 3 students who came and practice with me. One is alone and the other 2 are husband and wife. They have been progressing very nicely. The couple, it seems that the wife is progressing much more and feeling the bliss all the time. The husband seems to be jealous of that and they quarreled. Finally, they drop off practicing with me and do it themselves at home. The other student have been very diligent but his progress was slow and now he is coming on nicely.

This is not about the couple. It's about this slow student. Recently I observed that whenever he was in close proximity to me, he tends to go into a meditative mode. Then he will automatically meditate.

I too have noticed that when I deal with students who are married, then the one in the couple who does not have the experience of jhana becomes jealous.

I too have noticed that when people meditate with me, they tend to meditate more deeply, but this is not 100%, because some people come to meditate with me expecting to have an acid-level trip, and do not and are disappointed.

This student of mine, I shall call him Krishna, reported to me that he is having lucid dreams. In my opinion, he dreamed of his past life. He dreamed that he was chasing an olden kind of train and he was an European. Don't know about his sex though which is not important. He also reported that his perception of the world and his surroundings have changed. I suspected that he have reached an altered-state even in his waking moments. Anyone with the same experience or something similar could share theirs too. Any input will also be appreciated.

Over the more than 4 decades that I have been consistently meditating to the depth of one or more of the jhanas I have indeed become a lucid dreamer, and many of those lucid dreams have seemed like past lifetime recollections.  Sometimes the lucid dream is clearly an altered state, and sometimes it seems like I am there then.

I don't have anything to add, other than I find your description of your students relationship and mechanics interesting.
