What I am listening to tonight to relax
« on: April 30, 2023, 08:58:02 AM »
Do you guys watch ASMR videos?  This is what I am watching tonight to relax.  ASMR videos seem to be designed to induce 3rd(?) Jhana type state.  Here is the definition from Wikipedia.  They are basically calm videos with unique sounds like tapping keys or water bottles being sprayed.

Wiki:
"Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a tingling sensation that usually begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. A pleasant form of paresthesia, it has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia and may overlap with frisson.

ASMR is a subjective experience of "low-grade euphoria" characterized by "a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin." It is most commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control.

Hey David,

Ive seen some of those videos. I also recently read one blog saying that if people followed Buddha's teachings they could  access ASMR states anytime anywhere without any vids. So that is what I hope to achieve one day  :)

Thank you, David, yes, I agree, the description here is consistent with our definition of the 3rd stage of jhana/samadhi. However, it does not recognize the still mind is the second stage of samadhi and is a prerequisite of depth without delusion.
